World Environment Day 2023: Regional Activities



The Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs)
connects global partnerships with regional needs and solutions towards sustainable consumption and production (SCP) and inclusive green economies in the high-impact sectors of Food, Textiles, and Tourism, by focusing on policy-coherence, enhancing finance for circularity and SMEs, and empowering youth for sustainable lifestyles and green jobs.
World Environment Day 2023: Regional Activities
On June 5, to celebrate World Environment Day, LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator, led by UNEP’s GO4SDGs and EmPower initiatives together with the Massive Earth Foundation, was launched at a side event in India. The Accelerator aims to support capacity building of green starts-ups, especially those led by youth and women.
By providing online boot-camps led by industry leaders and facilitating meetings with investors to access financing, the Accelerator will contribute to increase resilience of green start-ups while ensuring a and just transition to a circular economy.

Green Jobs for Youth Pact Regional Roll Out
As a legacy initiative of the International Meeting of Stockholm+50 in June 2022, UNEP, ILO and UNICEF joined forces to develop the Green Jobs for Youth Pact (“The Pact”) which was launched at UNFCCC COP27, to accelerate the creation of more green and decent jobs for youth. The Pact works along with member states, employers, workers organizations and educators to tackle the youth in green jobs deficit to make the transition to a low-carbon, circular and greener economies.
To ensure the inclusion and engagement of young people from various backgrounds and geographies, the Pact will be rolled out across different regions, with roll outs already happening in Asia-Pacific, Africa and LAC.
Launch of Sustainable Lifestyles Challenge Second Edition
and University Network
Sustainable Lifestyles to live better and lighter is one of the key topics of GO4SDGs, and the G20 top of this year.
On June 5, to celebrate World Environment Day, 1000 people from around the world participated in the launch of the Second Global Edition of ‘My Sustainable Living Challenge’ in English, French, Spanish, and Russian. This innovative gamified learning platform continues to shift people’s individual behaviors towards more sustainable choices. GO4SDGs is active in Central Asia and supports activities to empower youth to embrace sustainable 1.5-degree lifestyles. To formalize Central Asian Universities interaction into the Sustainable Lifestyles University Network, GO4SDGs is hosted an official launch on the Network during the Sustainable Living Festival from 13th - 14 June. Sustainable Tourism
in Central Asia
GO4SDGs hosted a two-day regional webinar to discuss the challenges and solutions of plastic pollution food waste in tourists areas, as well as to introduce integrated environmental certification as a tool for sustainable tourism.
With the support of UNEP, a Kryrgyz village has inaugurated its first waste collection facility, a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development and tourism. The new facility, was established through the pilot project "Sustainable Tourism and Management of Plastic and Food Waste" within GO4SDGs 2022-23 programme. 15-16 June 2023, Asia-Pacific SCP-HAT Workshop
GO4SDGs together with 10YFP hosted a regional workshop that aimed to enhance knowledge of SCP approaches and their contributions to the economic and social transformation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the Asia Pacific.
The workshop facilitated knowledge exchange (South-South Cooperation) on SCP and circularity and green economy. This effort was jointly led by the One Planet Network and GO4SDGs, in collaboration with PAGE and the International Resource Panel.
